About
Storytelling through art. Flowing and fearless.
Officially founded in 2025 by Emilie Anne, Wu Wei Company is a creation-based dance and theatre company.
The Chinese philosophical concept wú wéi (無為), means “effortless action” or “non-doing.” It reflects the idea of moving in harmony with the natural flow of life, rather than forcing or resisting it. The name of the company also plays on the homophone wú wèi (無畏), meaning “fearless,” embodying a spirit of courage and authenticity.
Emilie Anne
Alternatively wielding a pen, a sword, or spiraling silks, Emilie Anne tells stories through artistic narratives that unfold across writing, performance, and more. A French-Taiwanese artist and Houston native, she is the Artistic Director of Wu Wei Company, a creation-based dance and theatre company weaving Eastern and Western influences into multidisciplinary works.
Her solo dance-theatre works Voice of the Swan (2022), Snowy-Silver Elephant (2023), and The Great Departure (2025) premiered at Midtown Arts and Theater Center Houston and have since reached audiences internationally. These works will culminate in the full-length production The Lion’s Roar: In the Footsteps of the Prince Who Became Buddha, set to premiere in 2026.
Emilie Anne’s training began with ballet at Houston Ballet Academy and the Gelsey Kirkland Academy of Classical Ballet in NYC. Her artistic path later led her to study Kathak (North Indian classical dance), French mime, Chinese Dunhuang dance, and Tai Chi. She holds a Diploma in Choreography from the Natya Institute of Kathak and Choreography and a B.A. in Interdisciplinary Studies from the University of Texas at Arlington.
She is a certified AstroChi Tai Chi instructor (Taiwan Tai Chi and Wushu Academy) and teaches Spiral Flow, a mindful movement practice that unites breath and motion while cultivating strength, balance, and flexibility. She also shares short films and wellbeing tutorials on her trilingual YouTube channel, which reaches over 26,000 subscribers.
