The Lion's Roar

Wu Wei Company's first full length production, "The Lion's Roar" or "Le Rugissment du Lion" in French, is currently in development and is set to premiere in 2026. "The Prince with the Lion’s Roar" tells the story of Siddhartha, the prince who became Buddha.

 

The show takes the audience on a journey from his birth to his enlightenment. Along the way, the audience meets different characters such as a queen who dreams of a snowy-silver elephant, a swan who flies higher than the Himalayan mountains, and a horse whose stride is wider than a river. Directed, choreographed, and performed by Emilie Anne, this show combines traditional and contemporary storytelling artforms of the East and the West. Set to a beautiful music score and stunning projections of paintings and animations by different collaborating artists, Siddhartha’s timeless story is brought to life.

"The Lion’s Roar" has received support from the City of Houston through Houston Arts Alliance. Wu Wei Company has presented work-in-progress showings and excerpts as part of Mind the Gap showcase organized by Dance Source Houston in partnership with Midtown Arts and Theatre Center Houston in 2022, 2023, and 2025.
